Big sedans may be losing market share to crossovers and SUVs, but that doesn't mean automakers will no longer make them. There's still a market for these four-door land yachts, and GAC still wants to cater to those who still want a large luxury sedan.

GAC has been busy this past couple of days. Aside from revealing the Enpulse roadster concept and the 2021 GM8 luxury van, the automaker also introduced the updated GA8 flagship sedan at the show.

But unlike the GM8 that had minor exterior changes, the 2021 GA8 looks very different from the pre-facelift model.

From the styling alone, you might think that the 2021 GA8 is an all-new model. But if you look at the windows and roofline, you can still see it is the same vehicle as before. In terms of design, this updated model looks a lot more stylish. Gone are the big headlights, and in its place are slim LED units. GAC also followed the big grille trend with the updated GA8. Also, the L-shaped trim pieces on the side intakes are similar to the ones found on the GM8.

To match the updated front end, GAC also revised the GA8's rear. Though it's quite hard to tell the difference, the taillights are now slimmer. There's also a new bumper with a cleaner looking diffuser. Rounding up the exterior changes are the new 17- and 18-inch wheels.

GAC not only updated the exterior, they even gave it a makeover inside. There's a new dashboard with a minimalist design. In a bid to clean up the clutter, most of the buttons moved above the center airconditioning vents. The luxury sedan also gets a digital upgrade, with the analog instrument cluster replaced by a 12.3-inch screen. Right beside the instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the center.

There's also a new gear selector now made from diamond-cut metal. Other noteworthy features include a two-tone, leather-lined interior with optional wood trim and a Hi-Fi 13-speaker audio system.

Under the hood, the GA8 now uses the Trumpchi third-generation 390T engine. The turbocharged 2.0-liter mill produces 252 PS and 390 Nm torque, which is on par with other large luxury sedans. Shifting is courtesy of a 6-speed automatic transmission. GAC says it has a top speed of 210 km/h and does 7.8L/100km (12.8 km/L).

In China, the range-topping variant of the 2021 GAC GA8 retails for 226,800 Yuan, roughly PhP 1.6 million. That's not bad considering how luxurious it is. Even though most consumers prefer anything with extra ground clearance these days, we still want to see this luxury sedan in GAC showrooms soon.
